Abstract
This paper will explain the history of IBM from the early 1910's to the 21st century from the perspective of the adaptive cycle theory. Thereby it will provide reasons and events triggered organizational changes within IBM and will reason them from the perspective of the adaptive cycle theory according to Holling.
