Abstract

Many publishing firms are facing a crisis situation due to the ongoing decline of sales from printed books, newspapers and magazines. This case study mapped five publishing firms operating in the Netherlands on the Adaptive Cycle model from Abcouwer and Parson to discover if these firms are going to trough similar development cycles and what they can learn from each other. We found that the model is useful for understanding the current development phase of these firms and conclude that comparing the results will be helpful for the firm’s currently facing crisis. However, some results can not be explained from our research, due to the lack of some research dimension like culture, further research is required to fully understand the our findings.
