Tacit and Explicit knowledge -- Kristina Tasheva 14:08, 3 June 2012 (CEST)
Laid under the circumstances of unstability, the leaders are certain about the growing power of the non-material assets and values(human, informational, organizational) and how the effective management leads to obtaining of competitive privilege. In that respect, the presence and availability of effective methods for management of these processes and their optimization by using IT, is crucial for the success of an organization. Since the environment constantly changes, it is required for the organization to be flexible and to react quickly to the changes that come into being.
In that respect the paper suggests the tacit and the explicit knowledge as a way to understand how strategic change may be accomplished. Knowledge Management codifies the tacit knowledge by increasing what the organization knows and organizes the explicit knowledge to be used throughout the organization. Communications and the knowledge management are highly technological platforms for management of the info-processes in the innovative companies, reinforcing the level of communicational competence.
In the article "Tacit Knowledge versus Explicit Knowledge: Approaches to Knowledge Management Practice", Ron Sanchez explains two fundamental approaches to knowledge management. The paper "clarifies how these two fundamental approaches differ in both their philosophical premises and derived recommendations for practice, and it summarizes the main strengths and weaknesses of each of the two approaches in practice." As discussed in the article, the tacit knowledge could be transferred by people who work in the organizations, making them the “knowledge carriers” and this leads to the learning of organization. The individuals have their own knowledge, but the sharing of ideas creates completely different one. On the other hand we have the explicit knowledge – the knowledge of individuals that could be articulated and made explicit. Both types find their place in terms of the adaptive cycle.
