Summary

IT outsourcing remains a popular strategy for organisations. IT has become an integral component of organisations, including their ability to adapt to changing markets. In this research, the effect of IT outsourcing on adaptability has been examined. An evaluation framework was developed based on Transaction Cost Theory, the Resource-Based View and the Infrastructure View. This evaluation framework has been applied to a case study. The case study revealed that IT outsourcing had both positive and negative effects on the organisation’s adaptability with the positives outweighing the negatives. The evaluation framework proved partially useful to assess adaptability.
